Whenever I’m working on an image, thoughts like is this truly authentic - or is it just a shallow copy of other artwork inevitably arise in my mind. I’m often afraid that I might be too influenced by what others create, and on occasion, I even wonder if there is a genuine notion in my head at allor if it’s all just hot air, fluffy clouds that will soon dissipate and leave nothing behind. Deep down though, I know that all artists are influenced by the artwork of others and ...the world around them. The challenge is to seek inspiration and incorporate elements that truly resonate with you in your own art, making them your own. In the words of Jim Jarmusch: "Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is nonexistent.
