Falafel, a staple Middle Eastern dishand a popular street food around the world. It is a deep-fried ball or patty made from ground chickpeas or fava beans. Falafel usually refers to a wrapped sandwich that servesbin pita bread topped with salads, pickled vegetables, hot sauce, and drizzled with tahini-based sauces. The origin of falafel is unknown and controversial. A common theory is that the dish originated in Egypt, possibly eaten by Copts as a replacement for meat during... Lent. As Alexandria is a port city, it was possible to export the dish and name to other areas in the Middle East. The dish later migrated northwards to the Levant, where chickpeas replaced the fava. It has also been theorized to a lesser extent that falafel originated during Egypt's Pharaonic Period or in the Indian subcontinent, which is known until today for making various chickpea-based dishes. One of the more accepted theories places the invention of falafel in more modern times, in the late 19th century. This is about the time when the dish started appearing in Egyptian literature, right after the British occupation in 1882. Despite plenty of evidence pointing to falafel originating in Egypt, a number of other countries claim falafel as their own. Israel is perhaps the most steadfast in its claim, even advertising falafel as one of their national dishes and putting it into songs. However, it is almost certain that falafel spread from Alexandria to Jewish communities in Palestine. . . #falafel #arthfilms #History #videostory #isreal #food #foodculture

History of Eiffel Tower Definitive, bold and prominent on the skyline of Paris, a structure that was only ever meant to be temporary, a piece of architecture that stands so tall and proud creating a focal point for the city, a landmark so grand Eiffel Tower nicknamed"La dame de fer" (French for lady) as impossible to imagine Paris without it. Gustave Eiffel and his company commissioned to design a tower that would celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution at th...e World’s Fair of 1889. The original structure featured monumental arches, stonework pedestals at the base of the tower legs and large glass-walled halls on each level along with very ornamental details. In the end, a simplistic version of the design was decided upon using the arches and latticework structure. Although this was an exciting project and would provide the city with an architectural masterpiece many people opposed the design and were concerned it would detract from the elegant, refined beauty of the city. The Tower was only meant to stand for 20 years but when over two million people came to visit the structure and the city of Paris during the World’s Fair of 1889 the people’s views began to change. The architectural structure featured 7,300 tonnes of iron, 2,500,000 rivets, 60 tonnes of paint, 150 plus workers in the factory and 150-300 workers on the construction site itself, this was a project of epic proportions and was supported by a hardworking workforce that completed the tower in 2 years, 2 months and 5 days. The Eiffel Tower is also a monument to their hard work and dedication as working conditions would not have been easy and health and safety standards wouldn’t have been what they are today for employees. It is easy to see why this piece of architecture has become a wonder for the world to see, whether you are stood beneath the structure looking up, entwined within its construction or admiring the views from the very top this tower is breathtaking. #effeltower #paris #tower #france #frenchrevolution #gustaveeiffel #ironlady #ladamedefer

Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s biggest and most beautiful waterfalls with an astounding width of 25 meters (82 feet) and a drop of 60 meters (197 feet). Located on the Skógá river, this mighty cascade is clearly visible from Route 1 and is an excellent place to stop and stretch the legs while travelling Iceland’s South Coast. The river below Skógafoss holds a large char and salmon population and is thus a favourite spot for fishermen in the summer. Due to the amount of spray t...he cascade produces, at least one rainbow is present any time the sun emerges from behind the clouds. The land underneath the waterfall is very flat, allowing visitors to walk right up to the wall of water. This will get you drenched, although, on a summer’s day, it can be quite tempting. . #iceland #skogafoss #travellife #travelphotography #mustsee #waterfall

Ded Moroz(Дед Мороз): Story of the soviet Santa Claus Russia and many other Slavic countries, particularly in Eastern Europe, have their own version of Santa Claus called Ded Moroz. The origin can be traced to Slavic mythology which predates Christianity. According to these myths, Frost or Morozko was known as a snow demon quite cruel as popular folklore suggests he would kidnap children, and only return them when their parents provided him with gifts. Later under the influenc...e of the Orthodox Church and Russian authors, Ded Moroz morphed into a kinder magical figure who instead of kidnapping children, provides them with presents on New Year’s Eve. Ded Moroz is very similar in many respects to Santa Claus, but can be strikingly different. For instance, his coat is sometimes red, but most often is blue. He wears tall valenki, traditional felted boots from Russia. Instead of eight reindeer, Ded Moroz employs three horses that drive his Russian troika. Gifts are delivered on New Year’s Ever rather than on Christmas Eve, a remnant of the Soviet transition to more secular holidays. Instead of the North Pole, the Russian Santa Claus officially makes his home at an estate in the Russian town of Veliky Ustyug. He is assisted not by elves, but by his beautiful granddaughter Snegurochka (Snow Maiden). Although at the beginning of the Soviet era communists banned Ded Moroz he soon became an important part of the Soviet culture. The literal translation is "Grandfather Frost". . . #dedmoroz #soviet #russia #santaclaus #snegurochka #velikyustyug

This photo taken in early 1900s by Dr Allan Warner of the Isolation Hospital at Leicester in the UK, shows two boys aged 13 years. The one on the right was vaccinated in infancy, the other was not vaccinated. They were both infected from the same source on the same day. While the one on the left is in the fully pustular stage, the one on the right has had only two spots, which have aborted and have already scabbed. Do you know why you don't see terrible pictures like these th...ese days? Because smallpox is considered to be eradicated thanks to one of the greatest inventions of modern science called vaccination. Smallpox has been eradicated in 1979, 70 years of intense fight against fears and prejudices. What is Matcha? Matcha is Japanese green tea powder made from finely powdered dried tea leaves. It has a slightly bitter, vegetal taste and a vibrant green color that results from the leaves’ high chlorophyll levels. It’s been the cornerstone of traditional Japanese tea ceremonies for centuries, but it recently became popular and used in varieties of food experiments like beer, chocolate, cakes; because of its health benefits. Regular green tea is already touted as an antioxid...ant powerhouse, but matcha has even more benefits. Here’s why: when you make other forms of green tea, you steep the leaves in hot water and then discard them. When you make matcha, you whisk the powder into hot water or milk. As a result, you actually consume the entire tea leaf when you drink it! The antioxidants it contains may lower blood pressure, reduce your risk of heart disease, and even boost your metabolism. Matcha does contain more caffeine than regular green tea, but it doesn’t give you a buzzy rush like coffee. It leaves me feeling energized and focused, but still calm. . . #matcha #storytelling #japanese #greentea #videography #reels #instaread #what

Short history of Pizza Pizza is a savory dish of Italian origin consisting of a usually round, flattened base of leavened wheat-based dough topped with tomatoes, cheese, and often various other ingredients (such as anchovies, mushrooms, onions, olives, pineapple, meat, etc.), which is then baked at a high temperature, traditionally in a wood-fired oven. A small pizza is sometimes called a pizzetta. A person who makes pizza is known as a pizzaiolo. The idea for pizza is olde...r than Italy itself. In its most basic form, pizza in ancient times was more similar to a seasoned flatbread and enjoyed by several cultures including the Greeks and the Phoenicians. Referred to as plankuntos, the Greeks would use this flatbread as an edible plate that would be topped by anything from stews and a thick broth to meats and fruits. Modern pizza evolved from similar flatbread dishes in Naples, Italy, in the 18th or early 19th century. The word pizza was first documented in A.D. 997 in Gaeta and successively in different parts of Central and Southern Italy. Pizza was mainly eaten in Italy and by emigrants from there. . . #pizza #pizzasong #lapizza #italy #italian #videography #storytelling
